The Cathedral of St. Nicolas in the Azhar district, Cairo and the Church of St. Saba, the [Greek Orthodox] papal residence in Alexandria, have started receiving condolences for the death of Pope Petrus VII, the Patriarch of the Greek Orthodox of Alexandria and all of Africa.
Last Saturday, the airplane, which the Patriarch and five of his assistants were traveling by from Athens to Mount Athos, crashed. Following the burial ceremony, the Holy Synod [of the Greek Orthodox Church] will convene at the Papal residence in Alexandria to elect a new patriarch from among the fifteen Greek Orthodox bishops.
