In a seminar organized by the Egypt Institution for Culture and Dialogue, Dr. Muhammad Salīm al-‘Awwā said that he would like the government to stop publishing the population census according to sects because he says some people manipulate parts of the data, particularly the number of Copts in Egypt. He also pointed out that Pope Shenouda III said that numbers published by the government are insignificant to him, claiming the number of Copts in Egypt to be fifteen million.
